Family: Hijack does not have any memories of any of the former bodies that make up her current one and therefore knows nothing of her family. The closest thing to ‘family’ she has is the scientist who created her, Dr. Modzierz.

Appearance and Style: Hijack is a small and young looking brown skinned girl in a wheelchair. Strangely her legs are two different skin tones from each other and from her normal skin tone, one much darker the other much lighter. There are scars where these legs connect to the rest of her body. She has green eyes and the skin around her eyes is scarred as well. Her head is shaved and covered in the scars of various incisions, with some metal plating on top. She has various large incisions on her abdomen and skin grafts of skin from the same bodies as her legs grafted on her back. Hooked onto the back of her wheelchair is a large tank filled with a strange black fluid, which has four tubes coming out of it attached to the base of her skull. Her veins, where they are visible, are much darker than a normal humans and the veins in her eyes are visibly black. Hijack tends to wear whatever clothes she has been given. She has sweats given to her by the hero that arrested her. She often wears her uniform even outside of school. Later on she may develop more of her own style.

Backstory

Hijack’s awareness only stretches back 4 years, shortly after the Tzari invasion. She was created by the death and immortality obsessed hypertech scientist, Dr. Mozdzierz by cobbling together the bodies of three girls who died in an attack. The girls he had chosen had awakened to mutant powers in their panic and fear but were unable to use their new powers to save themselves. Hijack gained two of the three girls’s powers. Hijack is only the second of his creations to have any sort of intelligence and the first one to have a fiesty enough will to eventually defy him. While he never fully suppressed her will, he outfitted himself with something that would block her powers from being used on him and would force her to return to him if she got too far away.

Dr. Modzierz used Hijack and her powers to kidnap living people for his experiments. It was on one of these trips to kidnap people that Hijack was stopped by a hero who destroyed the device that would force Hijack to return. They offered her a chance to attend Ravenhold Academy rather than be examined by other scientists or destroyed for being the freak of nature she was. She took the offer, grasping the chance to gain the ability to destroy Dr. Modzierz once and for all.

Misc Information

  • Hijack’s main original body had Cerebral Palsy and Hijack still does in her current amalgam body.
  • Before death Hijack’s main body could walk a little bit, though she was unsteady, but with the stiffness of death, the legs that do not belong to the original body, and the large, heavy tank of necrodyne connected to her that serves as an external circulatory system she is unable to walk very far.
  • The tubes of her necrodyne tank are partially made of hyperweave and so can stretch a decent amount without weakening or breaking so she is able to take a few steps away from her wheelchair if she must.
  • Hijack’s main (un)life goal is to eat Dr. Modzierz’s brain.

Backstory

Deryn was the children of two women who love each other so much, both being queer they allowed Deryn to express themself however they wanted from a young age, and Deryn although assigned male at birth always had a very unique perspective on gender, feeling neither yet also both male and female at times.

Deryn was born in Pennsylvania but when they were six their family relocated to Pennsylvania when their mom was offered tenure at a University. The anxiety of moving to another state and the children finding Deryn ‘weird’ is what caused their Empathic powers to awaken in second grade.

Deryn’s powers were always temperamental, although their Ma tried to help them learn focus techniques they never quite been able to turn their empathy off. Still, their powers allowed Deryn to make friends easily, being able to know what to say and do, but Deryn always had a nagging feeling people didn’t like them for who they truly were.

Deryn’s life was otherwise ordinary for many years, their mothers keeping them very busy with extracurriculars; piano, yoga, meditation, and later a part-time job at a family friend’s coffee shop.

However, Deryn’s life went upside down with their first love; Anders. Anders was a young and closeted transgender boy at school, Deryn being always so understanding drew them together and they had a brief relationship where they both lost their virginity. However Anders fear, anxieties, and religious-induced self-hatred pushed Deryn to try to push him toward accepting himself and coming out, but he wasn’t ready and the two fall apart soon.

Love for Deryn came again a year later when they met Charlotte a new student at their school. Deryn had learned from Anders, and the two were in love like only dumb teens could be, thinking they’d be together forever, them against the world… And then Charlotte’s mother died in a drunken hit and run, and she was utterly destroyed, Deryn let her grieve for weeks, then months, but Charlotte wasn’t getting any better.

So Deryn tried to help with her power, breaking the greatest taboo of any psychic; she altered her girlfriend’s mind. She tried to ease Charlotte’s pain, but Deryn was inexperienced; they meant only to ease the pain but instead, they took it completely; Charlotte could no longer feel anything about their mother and quickly became horrified at the betrayal.

By all accounts Deryn should have gone to jail, what they’d done was a severe crime, but Charlotte didn’t report them, they just shut them out. Deryn fell into a depression, they admitted what they’d done to their worried mothers. They understood Deryn’s motives but what they had done was crossing a line that never should be crossed.

So their Mom made some calls, she was related to someone who worked at Ravenhold and asked to get her child help. It was then that Deryn was sent to Ravenhold the next year.

Backstory

Charles wasn’t born like most people, he and his sister were created in a laboratory by their Father Charles deKlerk carefully selecting genes from him, his wife, and special donors to create two children with exceptional mental and physical potential.

Despite their unusual conception (and their father’s status as Technocratic Chairman of the Union,) the twins lived ordinary lives, for the most part; living in a luxurious but rather modest house, attending public school with Union children, and never made by their parents to feel superior to others, who pushed the twins hard to excel. Nevertheless, the Twins excelled at most of what they tried, always working hard due to the values embedded in them by their parents. They inherited their father’s hypertech abilities at a young age.

At fifteen Charles and Anke got their first chance to prove their worth in the Union’s meritocratic system; Charles was assigned to designing and manufacturing a brand new race car for championships but without using hypertech, a task that took him two years but the bleeding edge results greatly pleased his peers and he was admitted to the Union’s board.

But Charles had a different idea of what he wanted; he knew the Union was reviled on the international stage, considered warmongers, oppressors, and tyrants. So he hatched a plan; to become the Union’s first international superhero and show the world the country he was proud of wasn’t some backwater dictatorship run by a mad scientist as people believed but a real country.

So he created a suit of power armor which he pitted against Union mecha known as Fafnir class, after he finally was able to surpass the Union Warmachine he jokingly named his armor after Siegfried the dragonslayer. This done, he applied to Ravenhold, his application obviously drawing a lot of attention from the administration. After some questioning over motives he was allowed to Enroll.

Backstory

All Gabriel has ever known is his Papa and the apartment they lived in. Everything he read or watched, everything he ate, when he slept, when he woke up, every aspect of his life was carefully controlled by his Papa. And to Elias Hsiang, Gabriel was a son, a pet, a slave, a decoration. Gabriel would spend hours or days in a large aquarium as if he were an exotic fish. Under the care of Elias, Gabriel suffered physical, mental, and sexual abuse.

One day, only a few months before the beginning of the story the home Elias kept Gabriel in was found and raided by police who hoped to catch this major Syndicate member but unfortunately only found Gabriel. After speaking with Gabriel and understanding his situation, the authorities realized he was an innocent, abused child. But when they attempted to take him away from the apartment, Gabriel freaked out and tried to fight against him. When his meager strength proved to be no match in his panic, fear, and desperation Gabriel awakened his mutant powers and literally slipped through their hands. They had to use knockout gas and a power inhibitor collar to catch him and bring him out of there.

They brought him to a therapist and social worker named Dana Fern who specialized in helping Syndicate chimeras. She was unsure of how to deal with Gabriel’s deeply rooted, twisted world-view, especially when he made no effort to communicate with her. She also faced the threat of Elias or the Syndicate coming after and attempting to retrieve him. She knew she could not protect him and neither could a normal family or mental health care facility. The only options were the Chimera Asylum or Ravenhold Academy. When offered the choice, Gabriel chose Ravenhold Academy.

Backstory

Ever since childhood, Kavin was always a rather withdrawn child. Born mute, she never talked which drove a wedge between her and most other children, although her parents tried integrating her in a deaf/mute school, Kavin didn’t really take to sign language and eventually asked to go back to regular school as she found ASL exhausting to ‘listen’ to.

Kavin grew up without really interacting with other children but that rarely seemed to bother her, always preferring the companionship of technology and her service dog, Nimue. When she had to talk to people she always preferred texting over face-to-face conversations. Although her parents would have probably preferred she be easier, they still did everything they could to help their little girl.

When she was 11, Kavin manifested her mutant abilities with seemingly no trigger, becoming a hypertech. This only led to Kavin spending even more time isolated in her little workshop in her parents’ garage. There she started building robots, mostly to help her around the house, do her chores, and entertain her. But she started a bigger project she named the Priwen; a large mecha about fifteen feet in height.

Kavin’s life changed when superheroes and villains clashed through her neighborhood causing extensive collateral damage, including several fires. Although she wasn’t completed Kavin booted up Priwen and set out onto the streets, using the mecha’s great strength to rescue people, put out fires, and assist with the evacuation of the area. Because of this, she attracted the attention of Centurion who lauded her for her efforts, he would even send her an invitation to attend Ravenhold Academy later that year.

Backstory

Thea was an ordinary girl just two years ago, living in Anchorage Alaska with her dysfunctional family, parents who struggled with alcoholism and were verbally abusive. Thea was the local ‘ugly girl’ overweight, with bad eyes requiring terrible glasses and misaligned teeth that her family couldn’t afford to get fixed. A mixture of peer and parental abuse and bullying. Thea was a miserable girl, and she developed anorexia as a result.

Thea’s life was set on a disaster course but during a particularly bad bullying incident her mind snapped and the stress of the event caused her mutant powers to manifest. Her old body was gone, transformed into some strange alien plant creature. While many would struggle to adapt to this new form for Thea it was the slightly twisted answer to all of her prayers.

Almost overnight Thea reinvented herself, she learned to control her new form and shape herself to be as beautiful as she always wanted. But her family life remained, so she looked for an exit strategy, one she found at Ravenhold. She applied and by some miracle, she was chosen over thousands of people.

Backstory

Axel was born a cape kid, the child of two superheroes, it wasn’t the easiest of life as his parents spent so much time at work, never knowing when things might go wrong. But Axel never let it get to him, growing up with his grandparents for many years. At a young age, he knew he wanted to follow his parents’ legacy and be a superhero.

His parents were in semi-retirement by 2018 having reached their mid-forties when the Tzari-Earth war occurred. Like many heroes and former heroes, they answered the call of duty and fought the aliens for their planet. Unfortunately, his parents were involved in the battle of Moscow when the aliens destroyed the city from orbit, killing them and many more.

The death of both of his parents deeply shook the ten year old Axel who at first grew distant and depressed, at first he was angry that his parents had answered the call like any child would, but over time the values his parents passed onto him prevailed; His parents hadn’t left him, they had made the greatest sacrifice for the world, he knew that was something worth dying for.

So he poured everything into being a superhero, following his parents’ legacy and example, it was that or succumb to loneliness and despair. Axel began training as hard as he could; mastering his powers, training his body, and even steeling his mind.

When he turned thirteen he begged his uncle and aunt to let him attend but they said no, he wasn’t ready. So he trained harder and by the next year, they knew they couldn’t stop his ambition.

Backstory

Mari grew up in a perfectly ordinary immigrant family in Miami Florida, second oldest of four children. At a young age, Mari proved to be a lot to handle for their parents; impulsive, lacking focus, and struggling with academic matters. Where Mari found a place to express themself and pour their focus was Circus arts which they took like a fish to water. Mari wasn’t particularly feminine, sometimes even pretending to be a boy at a young age which the family always took in stride, just another part of Mari’s many quirks.

When Mari’s problems began was with the stealing. It’s not that Mari was a thief, it was an impulse stronger than they could control. Mari was caught a few times stealing from friends, neighbors, and even stores which they always felt great shame after doing. However, they got caught many times, ruining friendships and soon getting into trouble with the law. After talking with a court-ordered psychiatrist they were diagnosed as a kleptomaniac.

After getting some medication and therapeutic help around age ten Mari seemed to have calmed down, but the itch to steal was always present, just weaker, and sometimes they still fell for it. It was during one of these times at age eleven that Mari’s power manifested; they’d taken a Gameboy cartridge from a display but a security guard (knowing their face) demanded they empty their pocket. In that moment of panic, Mari’s mind snapped, and space around them bent; the stolen goods disappearing into a dimensional pocket.

Mari got away with it, having no idea how, but soon it was apparent something had changed inside their mind, they were more agile, more precise, faster, and stronger even. Whatmore, Mari’s brain could now calculate the distance, trajectory, and speed of things.

Although their powers provided them with a potentially foolproof way of not getting caught, Mari still did their best not to give in to the impulse. But as Puberty came into full force their impulsiveness grew. First, it was fights, drugs, and taking dumb risks like surfing vans on the beach, anything to get that thrill. When Mari became caught in the crossfire of a superhero and gang fight, Mari had a revelation.

They went home and gathered everything they needed to make their own costume, sure they COULD have become a hero the legitimate way but that seemed like way too much bother and wait for them. So they went out as independent neutral cape, fighting villains, criminals, but also ‘fighting back’ against people Mari felt deserved it no matter what the law said; asshole rich people who through they were above the law, racist cops, corrupt corporations.

Mari became Carnival, an “Ethical Rogue” is what they fancied themselves, and for a few months, they were very successful. But Mari’s luck ran out, they were caught by villains who wanted revenge. If it hadn’t been for heroes coming in to rescue them they would’ve suffered, maybe died.

However the Heroes weren’t willing to just let them go, they’d broken so many laws even if their heart had mostly been in the right place. So they were given the chance; Attend Ravenhold on parole instead of going to Juvie hall. Mari took the deal wholeheartedly.

Backstory

Amanda doesn’t remember life before the Syndicate took her very well. Vaguely she remembers a father, an elder brother but she couldn’t fully recall their faces let alone their names. She doesn’t care though. Because she does know that that father of hers sold her to the Syndicate.

As with all young children they acquire, the Syndicate chimerized her. She had turned out cute enough that they actually attempted to use send her to the underground chimera brothels but when ‘customer’ attempted to rape her she manifested her powers, crushing his skull. It was then that the Syndicate decided that she was better suited in the fighting rings.

At first she struggled to survive but eventually she learned a trick…

Act pathetic. Act cute. Act lovable. Act weak. And then strike when their guard is down. Years passed and she got better and better at her act and stronger and stronger with her powers. Those in charge of the fighting ring caught onto her act, they worked with her to create drama and excitement. Having her throw some fights, letting her meet her opponents beforehand and manipulate them further, and other similar things.

She got used to her life. She began to enjoy the fights, enjoy the treachery. Until… Minotaur and some other heroes busted the fighting ring and freed her from the Syndicate. Now she must learn to not treat life as a battlefield.

Backstory

Eli was born in Ohio and lived there their entire life. And it has been an extremely normal life. They were born to a loving couple that had struggled with infertility in the past and only managed to have Eli in their early thirties after trying for a decade. They deeply treasure this one child they managed to have and spoiled them a bit, but being good, kind, and open-minded people themselves they raised Eli into a good kid.

Eli got their powers around 8 years ago when they had a panic attack during a school play. They shrunk into their costume disappearing before the eyes of half their hometown. Their anxiety has only gotten worse since and, especially after coming out as non-binary when they were 10, they were heavily bullied. Eli’s shrinking was “too disruptive” in class and so by the time they were 11 they were pulled out of school to be home-schooled.

Eli decided to apply for Ravenhold when they realized they were starting to approach adulthood and still couldn’t properly function in society. They wanted to attend with the main goal being to learn to control their powers, though the more they thought about the more they started to fantasize about becoming a hero. But they gotta learn how to stop shrinking whenever someone besides their parents talks to them first!
